Treasures
Before Jesus came, God's law required that a person give 10% of all that they had (not only their monthly income). We are no longer under the 'law' but under 'grace'. It is helpful to note that under 'grace' we live above the 'law'. For example under the 'law' you could not commit adultery. Under 'grace' Christ says you must not even look at someone with lust. In every way, 'grace' causes us to live higher than the law.
The law acted as a shadow of what was to come in grace.
Here is how you can give:
- TITHE: Under grace we give out of a heart response to God who gave first. So when we talk about tithing, we don't mean under 'law' – i.e. only 10%. Under grace we give a 'super-tithe' because we understand that God owns everything, and we owe Him everything (2 Cor. 6:6-9).
- OFFERINGS: Building costs, church planting etc.
- ALMS: Giving to the poor
- APOSTOLIC: Money that we give to ministers, ministries, and opportunities that promote the Gospel outside of KC. We currently give away about 20% of our overall income.
